Typical of my work are sound installations such as this one, which seek to make audible aspects of the particular acoustic personality of a given space. These acoustical features can be incredibly evocative when experienced as sustained tones. As they stimulate the architecture, these tones help transport the listener to a different realm of awareness and to experience a deeper connection with the invisible nature of space. As a point of contrast, I usually like to bring in an additional, more familiar sound that is foreign to the site to provide a contrasting point of reference.
Soundscape with Grasshoppers features the sound of mating Everglades grasshoppers over a bed of resonant frequencies from Robert Thiele’s concrete sculpture room at Bridge Red Studios.
The installation was created by invitation from Robert Thiele and from Robert Chambers. The piece is part of the exhibition BluPrnt featuring the work of 385 Miami based artists on display from November 20, 2022 through February 12, 2023.
