Seth Josel — electric guitar and electric bass
New World Records 80661-2
Released 2008
The Stroke That Kills is an album of electric-guitar music curated and performed by Seth Josel. Its six compositions explore the instrument through contrasting approaches by Eve Beglarian, Alvin Curran, Michael Fiday, David Dramm, Gustavo Matamoros and Tom Johnson.
The album takes its title from David Dramm’s composition The Stroke That Kills and includes my Stone Guitar with TIG Welder under the recorded title Stoned Guitar/TIG Welder.
MY CONTRIBUTION
Stoned Guitar/TIG Welder (2005)
Track 7 — 9′20″
Seth Josel — electric guitar
Gustavo Matamoros — TIG welder recording
Seth learned the piece when he came to Miami for Subtropics 18 in 2006. He subsequently recorded the one-guitar realization, in which the amplified guitar is blended with my recording of a tungsten inert gas welder captured at the Atlantic Center for the Arts.
I edited my contribution and participated in its post-production. The original work and its later four-guitar, four-channel realization are documented in the Selected Works post Stone Guitar.
